Betty and John's visit...

Our dear friends, Betty and John, came to visit us from Phoenix! They hadn't been here since our wedding (7 years ago!) and we were much anticipating their visit over the Labor Day weekend.

While I was in Canada, we got a call from John, letting us know that Betty had fallen, and while she hadn't broken her hip (thank heavens!), she had badly tweaked it, and was in a lot of pain. So we weren't sure they were coming until Wednesday, when Betty was feeling enough better for her decide that they were coming! Yay!!

They took their time during the drive between Phoenix and Moss Beach, and arrived here in the afternoon on Friday, the 4th of September.

We had made lots of plans, but were waiting to see how Betty was feeling before we decided to go ahead with them. She improved steadily, each day, and we managed to be on the go quite a bit!

Saturday we went over to the Pez Museum in Burlingame! John is an avid pez collector, and this is a regular stop on their trips to the bay area. Then we went to Millbrae to their art and wine festival, and looked at all the wares. We were able to trade in a duplicate picture we had purchased last year for another one, and Betty found some gifts to take home, too.

On Sunday we went into Half Moon Bay and toured around there. We stopped at "Half to Have It", a combination antique shop and assorted sundries. We stopped at Cunha's market, and picked up some items there. Then, on Sunday evening, we went into San Francisco and went to Teatro Zinzanni - a fabulous dinner show. It's a combination of dinner, cabaret acts, comedy, music and acrobatics. VERY entertaining! It was a new show and we all really enjoyed it!

Monday we spent time sight-seeing on the coastside - we visted the Montara Light House and went into Pacifica to some antique shops there.

Tuesday we had tickets for the King Tut exhibit at the DeYoung Museum. The exhibit is on it's last visit to San Francisco before it leaves for it's permanent exhibit home in Cairo, so a great opportunity to see the collection. After the exhibit, we had lunch at the Cliff House, and then toured around San Francisco. It was a great day.

We had a wonderful time visiting together, catching up. We watched DVD's and usually stayed up too late - but no worries, as we didn't have to get up early in the morning!

Betty and John left on Wednesday, and it was sad to see them go! On their trip home, they spent the night in Grover Beach, and had dinner with Jim, which was wonderful! They had been to Jim's home in Shell Beach about 30 years ago, and of course, had seen him at the wedding. So they were able to catch up, too.

Betty and John have promised to come and visit us again next year, and we'll head up to the gold country and pan for gold!

By the way, Betty is feeling much, much better and is nearly recovered from her fall.

Here's John, at Half to Have it, checking out some bronze statues.

Betty on the deck. We had a beautiful, sunny day on Monday, so we came home and had lunch on the deck! Note that Betty has on long sleeves - although it was warm to us, it was 40 degrees cooler than Phoenix, so felt cool to her.

Betty and John at the Montara Light House. Have I told you that this light house originally was in Wellfleet, Ma., and traveled around the horn and by rail to Montara in the early 20"s? It's the only known light house to have served on both coasts.

The Golden Gate Bridge, in the fog, naturally! Betty and John, in layers!

I just LOVE this shot!

Us, too!

Here we are at Teatro Zinzanni! Note the people in the sound booth, behind us.
