Jim and Rex's visit - Feb 2012

Jim had a week of vacation in February so he and Rex came for a visit!  The weather was great, and we took advantage of it to play tourist!

Jim arrived on Sunday afternoon.  On Monday we went into Half Moon Bay and visited the wonderful Half Moon Bay nursery.  Of course we came home with some plants!  We also spent some time wandering around town, and enjoyed a frozen yogurt on the patio of our favorite yogurt place, Nanos.

On Tuesday, Lee and Jim visited Filoli to see what bulbs were up and what was blooming.  Since they don't welcome dogs, and it was really quite warm, Rex and I stayed here.  The guys had a great time touring the house and all of the gardens.  It was early in the season, but some bulbs were blooming and they got lots of pictures.  Jim bought us a wonderful blooming vine, with fragrant purple flowers.

On Wednesday we went into the City, and had a great walk around Land's End.  We had gorgeous views of the bay and the bridge. We visited the Legion of Honor, then had a picnic lunch at Crissy Field, until the sun went behind the trees and it started to get cold!  We made a stop at Sutro Tower on the way home, as Jim had never been up there.  The views of the City from there are amazing!!

Thursday, armed with a picnic lunch, we went over the Bay Bridge to Treasure Island.  We had a picnic there and visited the statue "Bliss".  Rex enjoyed all the walks and the tour around Treasure Island.  We then went into San Francisco and visited Coit Tower, as Jim had never been up in the tower before.  More amazing views of the city, and great pictures!

On Thursday night Jim took us out to dinner at a great Italian restaurant in HMB.  The food was delicious and we all splurged on yummy desserts, too!  It was a very decadent end to a lovely day!

On Friday Lee and Jim headed into the City to do some of the things that are not "dog friendly".  They went to Fort Point, located under the Golden Gate bridge.  They were able to tour the fort, which is really quite amazing.  They spent time at the Hyde Street Pier, where you can visit old sailing ships.  Some of them were built in the early 1800's, and most were built in Scotland and England.  They then visited the new Maritime Museum on Fisherman's Wharf.  It' hasn't been open very long, and gave a lot of the history of San Francisco's maritime experience.

And sadly, then it was Saturday, and Jim and Rex headed home, to get ready for the realities of the upcoming work week.  We really enjoyed their visit, and can't wait till they come and see us again!

San Francisco, as seen from the Sutro Tower on Twin Peaks.  As you can see, it was a beautiful, clear day.  What you don't see is that it was blowing a gale up there!
